Muslims to Follow
Beyond the Stereotype is all about having conversations and engaging in open honest discussions about Islam and how it is perceived by teens. I feel that recent world and local events have pushed Islam into a very negative spotlight.

Some Background About Islam
The most important Muslim practices are the Five Pillars of Islam. They are the five obligations that every Muslim must satisfy in order to live a good and responsible life according to Islam.
Some Beliefs Muslims Live By
Allah Just Means God
- Muslims believe in the exact same God as Christians and Jews, we just use a different name
- And by the way, muslims believe in the same prophets, including Moses and Jesus
Don't Harm Others
- It sounds basic, but this point must be made clear to show how hypocritical "muslim" terrorists are
- In believing they do harm for the sake of their religion, they're actual going against basic values
Public Welfare
- A big part of being a muslim is helping others in need
- A pillar requirement in being muslim is to perform "zakat", a mandatory charitable financial donation to the less fortunate*
* if one can afford it
Complete Equality
Every single person (no matter the ethnicity religion, nationality, etc...) should be treated equally
This is a timely value that all should follow

Yeah, That Was Us
You may not realize it, but muslims have significantly influenced the way we go about our daily lives by inventing stuff we use all the time
coffee
-
First brewed in the 9th century in Yemen
-
Helped Sufis stay awake during late hours on busy days (just like today)
-
16th century, it had reached Italy where it was introduced to the western world and grew exponentially across Europe
-
Today, coffee is extremely valuable to the millions of hardworking people needing an extra boost or those who enjoy its flavor and warmth
-
Without Muslims, Starbucks probably wouldn’t exist!
Universities
-
In 859, Fatima Al-Firhi (yes, a woman) founded the first degree-granting university in Fez, Morocco, combined with an adjacent mosque
-
Together, the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque/University was founded. This educational organisation is a representation of Islam’s values of teaching and education.
-
This is the first of thousands of universities spread across the world, offering life changing information to help people pursue their passions.
-
Today, universities offer millions of young adults the opportunity to take their interests to the next level and have the tools for a better future life.
hospitals
-
Egyptians during the 9th century established the first hospitals which offered services without any charge
-
The generous services of the hospital derive from Islamic teachings of caring for all who are sick.
-
The importance of hospitals today is obvious, with an average of 50,000 lives every year. This organized form of caring for others created by muslims is now used in every corner of the world.
